The status of the WWE Women’s United States Championship at WrestleMania 42 has become a focus for the creative team following a series of unexpected setbacks. While WWE is reportedly aiming for a record-breaking six women’s matches in Las Vegas, the path for current champion, Giulia, is now cloudy after a surprise injury.
According to Ibou of the Self-Made Sessions Podcast, the original internal pitch featured the champion defending her title in a high-profile Triple Threat match against Tiffany Stratton and Jordynne Grace. The planned Triple Threat match hit a major roadblock last week when Grace suffered an ankle injury during a match against Alba Fyre on WWE Main Event.

Chelsea Green is currently sidelined, and it remains unclear if she will be medically cleared in time for the April 18–19 event at Allegiant Stadium. This injury has reportedly forced Triple H and the lead writers to consider a pivot in its plans, likely transitioning the bout into a straight singles match between Giulia and Stratton.
For Giulia, a WrestleMania appearance would mark a milestone for the Women’s United States Championship. Since Green became the inaugural champion in December 2024, the title has changed hands four times over 13 defenses, yet not a single defense has taken place on a PLE.
Getting Giulia onto the main card in Las Vegas is seen as a step in establishing the championship’s prestige alongside the top-tier world titles held by Stephanie Vaquer and Jade Cargill. Over the past several weeks on SmackDown, she has attempted to secure her spot on the WrestleMania card through alternative means, including a failed attempt in the Women’s Elimination Chamber and going after the tag team titles with Kiana James.
