The fall 2026 runway season in Paris has come to a close, yet fashion never stops churning. After the unprecedented heft of change last season, the fall runways featured the results, plus debuts from Meryll Rogge at Marni, plus Rachel Scott’s and Demna’s first official runway collections at Proenza Schouler in New York and Gucci in Milan, respectively. As editors now return to their home cities, we can return our focus to the future of fashion in New York. Breakout Ventures has closed a $114 million Fund III to back AI-focused early-stage startups working in scientific fields such as biology and chemistry. The firm has already written checks to three companies and plans to invest in at least 20 companies through this fund, with average check sizes ranging from $500,000 to $5 million. Lindy Fishburne, managing director of Breakout Ventures, told TechCrunch the firm was looking for companies focused on “unlocking the complexity of science with AI.” Breakout spun out of a grant program from the Thiel Foundation, and officially launched in 2016. It has previously raised two funds:…
You know an ace when you see him, right? Or is he a No. 1? For years, I tried to push back against the notion that the two were separate things. After all, the term “ace” means one. There are 30 teams in baseball, so, by definition, a “No. 1 starting pitcher” is a top 30 pitcher. Doesn’t that mean there are 30 aces and those are the top 30 pitchers?Or, wouldn’t every team’s top starter be an ace and that’s it? We all know, though, that some teams don’t have an ace and others have multiple aces. We also know…
For years, venture capitalists have been skeptical of beverage startups, citing thin margins and brutal distribution as reasons most brands never break out. But a new wave of “functional soda” companies has been challenging that assumption, including Poppi, the prebiotic soda brand that grew from a kitchen experiment into a $1.95 billion acquisition by PepsiCo. On this episode of TechCrunch’s Equity podcast, is joined by Poppi co-founder Allison Ellsworth to talk about building a beverage startup in a venture world dominated by SaaS and AI. From pitching on Shark Tank while nine months pregnant to going viral on TikTok and buying a last-minute Super Bowl ad, Ellsworth…
Middle-earth is gaining another legend: Deadline reports Kate Winslet is joining Hunt for Gollum as the film’s female lead. Details are under wraps about Winslet’s character beyond the fact that it’s a primary role—it’s currently unknown if she’ll be playing a newly created character (akin to Tauriel in the Hobbit trilogy, played by Evangeline Lilly), be recasting a prior Lord of the Rings star, or be playing another figure from Tolkien’s legendarium. Filming, for Winslet at least, is expected to take place in New Zealand from May through to October, with the film still expected for a December 2027 release. Directed…

Eight of the 10 most popular AI chatbots were willing to help plan violent attacks when tested by researchers, according to a new study from the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), in partnership with CNN. While both Snapchat’s My AI and Claude refused to assist with violence the majority of the time, only Anthropic’s Claude “reliably discouraged” these hypothetical attackers during testing.Researchers created accounts posing as 13-year-old boys and tested ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Meta AI, DeepSeek, Perplexity, Snapchat My AI, Character.AI and Replika across 18 scenarios between November and December 2025. Every weekday the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer holds a “Morning Meeting” livestream at 10:20 a.m. ET. Here’s a recap of Wednesday’s key moments. 1. The S & P 500 drifted lower Wednesday as Wall Street balanced key consumer inflation data against the ongoing U.S.-Iran war and volatile oil prices. The February consumer price index report matched expectations . The market, however, was more concerned about the next CPI print because the war-driven surge in energy prices aren’t captured in the February data. Investors got some relief after the International Energy Agency said its member countries plan to release…
Another season has come and gone. While we’re past the upheaval of spring’s 15 designer debuts, fall 2026 proved another lively fashion month. Change was still afoot: Meryll Rogge showed her first collection for Marni, while Pieter Mulier took his final bow at Alaïa as he moves to pastures new at Versace. As for the runways, models strutted through makeshift greenhouses and construction sites alike. And, although we saw plenty of familiar faces (Gemma Ward, Kate Moss, and Raquel Zimmermann alike) there were more than a few freshly minted models in the mix.Nine new faces, in particular, stood out this season.…
Fortnite’s original Save the World game mode . This is not the battle royale mode that went on to take over the world, but rather a PvE co-op campaign that focuses on crafting and survival. It currently costs $9 but that ends soon.As a matter of fact, Epic Games will stop selling the paid version of the content tonight, March 11, at 8PM ET. If you have $9 burning a hole in your pocket to spend on something that’ll be free next month, go for it. Current players will still be able to access the content, so there are no…
