All prices were accurate at the time of publishing.Even though I’m a believer in enjoying soup all year long, I won’t deny that we are currently in peak soup season (at least in New York City, where it feels like this freezing-cold weather is never going to end). These days, when I find a new soup recipe I’m jumping at the chance to whip up a pot. One recipe that recently came across my desk was pickle soup. Honestly, I had never heard of…
There’s been a bunch of exciting research-focused AI labs popping up in recent months, and Flapping Airplanes is one of the most interesting. Propelled by its young and curious founders, Flapping Airplanes is focused on finding less data-hungry ways to train AI. It’s a potential game-changer for the economics and capabilities of AI models — and with $180 million in seed funding, they’ll have plenty of runway to figure it out. Last week, I spoke with the lab’s three co-founders — brothers Ben and Asher Spector, and Aidan Smith — about why this is an exciting moment to start a…
The Bradley Chubb era in Miami is over, as the Dolphins are set to release the veteran pass rusher, according to multiple reports.Miami originally acquired Chubb in 2022, trading first- and fourth-round picks, along with running back Chase Edmonds, to the Denver Broncos in exchange for Chubb and a fifth-round pick. He then signed a five-year, $110 million contract extension with Miami that was originally set to keep him with the Dolphins through the 2027 season. However, Chubb was set to draw a base salary of $18.5 million and count $31.5 million against the cap in 2026, so the Dolphins will cut…
The co-founders of startup Ricursive Intelligence seemed destined to be co-founders. Anna Goldie, CEO, and Azalia Mirhoseini, CTO, are so well-known in the AI community that they were among those AI engineers who “got those weird emails from Zuckerberg making crazy offers to us,” Goldie told TechCrunch, chuckling. (They didn’t take the offers.) The pair worked at Google Brain together and were early employees at Anthropic. They earned acclaim at Google by creating the Alpha Chip — an AI tool that could generate solid chip layouts in hours — a process that normally takes human designers a year or more.…
Cold weather has been a prime motivator for designers across the globe this fall season. Writing from Tokyo, Daisuke Obana reported that the mercury has fallen unusually low in Japan, but it was an earlier trip to Greenland, Finland, and Iceland that informed this season’s N.Hoolywood Compile offering. Those adventures up north, the designer said, “offered a very quiet, almost gentle kind of inspiration,” which was evident in the snow shower blanketing the models in the collection video and lookbook, in a faux fur collar on a hooded jacket, and in some quite wonderful spliced sweaters that mix cable knits…
One person’s recreational drug trip might be another’s mental health boost. Research out today finds that dimethyltryptamine, better known as DMT, could be effective at treating people’s depression. Researchers in the UK conducted a small, randomized, placebo-controlled trial of people with major depression. Compared to controls, people on DMT experienced a rapid drop in their depressive symptoms, one that lasted at least 12 weeks later. Though larger studies are warranted, the findings suggest that DMT could very well become the next psychedelic drug rechristened as psychiatric medicine. “A single dose of DMT with psychotherapeutic support produced a rapid, significant reduction…
Does everything feel like too much these days? Get When Life Sucks: 21 Days of Laughs and Light for free when you join the Tiny Buddha list. “You teach people how to treat you by what you allow, what you stop, and what you reinforce.” ~Tony Gaskins It was a Tuesday afternoon when I said the word that saved my sanity: “No.” Just two letters. But the weight I’d been carrying for twenty-eight years finally lifted. My phone was ringing. Again. It was my cousin, and I already knew what she wanted before I answered. Could I watch her kids…

Apple has lined up its first event of the year. The company has invited members of the press to an “Apple Experience” that’s taking place in New York City on March 4 at 9AM ET.
