Welcome to Bon Appétit Bake Club, a community of curious bakers. Each month senior Test Kitchen editors Jesse Szewczyk and Shilpa Uskokovic share a must-make recipe and dive deep on why it works. Come bake and learn with us—and don’t forget to join the Bake Club group chat over on Substack.Biscuits come in many forms (drop, butterswim, angel) but my favorite kind will forever be flaky, the kind you can peel apart layer by layer, like pages in a paperback book. Such is the approach in our February Bake Club recipe. From afar, this may seem tough to achieve, the…

There is a mouse graveyard in my office cabinet — devices I’ve tried and discarded because they didn’t help with my shoulder aches. The solution was a roller ball mouse and Logitech’s MX Ergo is the best I’ve found. It tilts for a more natural “handshake” grip and has a slow-mo option for more precise movements in Photoshop and other apps. The scroll wheel is speedy but precise, as is the trackball and you can switch between two devices with the pairing button. You can even program the various buttons to do app-specific things using Logitech’s software. It’s also a…

Anthropic is focused on growing its business rather than making “flashy headlines,” its commercial chief told CNBC in a thinly-veiled swipe at rival OpenAI as the public war of words between the AI giants continues. Anthropic aired ads at Sunday’s Super Bowl taking a dig at OpenAI’s decision to begin testing ads on ChatGPT. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman called Anthropic’s ad “deceptive.” It comes as the leading AI model players are locked in an intensifying battle to sign up businesses to use their products. In a wide-ranging interview with CNBC, Smith also said the market sell-off in software stocks, sparked…

Ralph Lauren made the unusual decision to put on a men’s show in Milan last month. Unusual because more often than not this century Lauren has shown his menswear in a presentation format, but strong sales and renewed interest across his women’s and men’s collections—he picked up a CFDA womenswear designer of the year award in November—convinced him to get back on the runway. Smart decision. Combining Purple Label and Polo, Lauren’s was the most-viewed men’s show of the season across both Milan and Paris. This women’s collection exuded some of the rugged elegance that enlivened his menswear offering. The walls…

It’s an incident André Thierig, Tesla’s director of manufacturing for its German plant, called “truly beyond words!” A union representative from Germany’s largest metalworker’s union, IG Metall, is being accused of secretly recording a meeting of the plant’s employee council on Tuesday. According to Thierig, Tesla “called police and filed a criminal complaint!” Someone recording a meeting may not sound all that explosive at first, but the labor mess at the Berlin-Brandenberg Tesla Gigafactory has dragged on for years now, and since German work-related norms and laws reflect an alien society sorely lacking in American freedom, the details may be a…

Smart plugs aren’t the most complicated smart home device — they really just turn stuff off and on — but they do make life a little easier. Since using smart plugs, I’ve grown accustomed to having the living room lamps click on just before sunset and go off when I say goodnight to Alexa or the Google Assistant/Gemini (Siri can turn off a few of my lights, but isn’t compatible with all of them). Most smart home device makers have a plug or two in their lineups, but finding one that’s compatible with your chosen ecosystem, that’s easy to set…
