Greta Constantine designer Kirk Pickersgill is celebrating his 20th year in business. This is admittedly no small feat for a Canadian label, where the fashion industry is notably minuscule, and it can be challenging to grow and sustain a brand on a more global scale. “I’m so proud, as an immigrant, to still be doing what I love to do,” says Pickersgill. “I feel like it’s just the beginning.”For his new fall collection, Pickersgill wanted to double down on what the brand does best: red carpet and gala glamour. Yet Pickersgill says he wanted to do so in a way…
As a movie, Iron Lung is occasionally thrilling but mostly forgettable. It’s a small-budget horror flick that has some cool ideas and pulls them off in an extremely efficient way, creating a sense of tension that unfortunately never turns into outright scares. But the most important thing about it is what it represents. At a time when movie theaters are dominated by only the biggest blockbusters and smaller films are trying to forge their own paths, Iron Lung managed to make more than $20 million at the box office without the backing of a major studio. All it took was…

When we say that NordVPN is a good VPN that’s not quite great, it’s important to put that in perspective. Building a good VPN is hard, as evidenced by all the shovelware VPNs flooding the market. NordVPN may not be perfect, but it’s easily top-five caliber and excels in certain use cases.First, the bad: NordVPN’s apps could all stand to undergo a little more quality control, with elements distracting from other elements and inconsistent designs from platform to platform. At least one of its FAQ pages directly contradicts itself. And while all the server locations could unblock Netflix, the one…
Reddit suggested on Thursday that its AI-powered search engine could be the next big opportunity for its business — not just in terms of product, but as a revenue driver impacting its bottom line. During the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call on Thursday, the company offered an update on its plans to merge traditional and AI search together and hinted that although search is not yet monetized, “it’s an enormous market and opportunity.” In particular, the company believes that generative AI search will be “better for most queries.” “There’s a type of query we’re, I think, particularly good at — I…
Alabama center Charles Bediako is scheduled for a court hearing on Friday wherein a judge will determine whether the NCAA may enforce its eligibility rules against him. Ahead of what could be a groundbreaking determination in Circuit Court, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey signed an affidavit asking judge Daniel Pruet to deny Bediako additional eligibility. It is a significant move from Sankey, one of the most powerful voices in college athletics, as he seeks legal help in preventing one of his conference members from rostering a former professional player.”I respectfully ask the Court to uphold the NCAA eligibility rules challenged in this…
When Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos entered the Senate office building on Tuesday, he got thrown a curveball. What started as a standard antitrust hearing relating to the Warner Bros. merger quickly devolved into a performative Republican attack about the spread of “woke” ideology on the streaming service. At the same time, arguably a much more influential platform was completely ignored: YouTube. After grilling Sarandos about residual payments, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) launched into a completely different line of questioning: “Why is it that so much of Netflix content for children promotes a transgender ideology?” Hawley asked, making an unsubstantiated claim that…

“We actually put the most pressure on ourselves,” Serhat Işik and Benjamin Huseby humbly noted a few minutes before their show began. GMBH has always had a political bent, but they also allow themselves the freedom to sometimes “just” make beautiful fashion.“Back in winter 2023, we called our collection ‘Untitled’ and it was all about the color pink and bows. That’s a privilege, no question. But now? We can’t remain silent. As soon as you walk out, you face reality,” said Işik. Next to him was Huseby, wearing a T-shirt with the words “Friedensangst” printed on it. “Fear of Peace”…
Anthropic, the makers of the popular and code-competent chatbot Claude, released a new model Thursday called Claude Opus 4.6. The company is doubling down on coding capabilities, claiming that the new model “plans more carefully, sustains agentic tasks for longer, can operate more reliably in larger codebases, and has better code review and debugging skills to catch its own mistakes.” It seems the model is also pretty good at catching other people’s mistakes. According to a report from Axios, Opus 4.6 was able to spot more than 500 previously undisclosed zero-day security vulnerabilities in open-source libraries during its testing period.…
