Xiaomi and Leica’s long-running phone partnership just got a little closer. Alongside the new international release of its 17 Ultra flagship, Xiaomi has been entrusted with manufacturing a separate version that is the first Leica Leitzphone to release outside of Japan, following three Sharp-made models exclusive to the country. In truth, the Leitzphone is a 17 Ultra with Leica branding and a rotatable camera ring, and apart from a few design tweaks, it’s mostly the same as the Leica Edition of that phone already available in China. But the branding is a big deal: Leica hasn’t let Xiaomi use its red…

Missile defense begins with sensors that can detect a launch within seconds. One of the key radars used with THAAD is the AN/TPY-2, a high-frequency X-band radar designed to track small, fast-moving objects at long distances.BARAK (top), PAC-3 MSE (middle) and THAAD (bottom) missiles from Lockheed Martin. The joint U.S. and Israeli attack on OPEC member Iran risks a major oil supply disruption in the Middle East that, in a worst-case scenario, could trigger a global economic recession.Iran is the fourth-largest oil producer in OPEC at just over 3 million barrels per day in January. The Islamic Republic shares a coastline with the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most important waterway for the global oil trade. The oil market has long shrugged off the risk of an oil supply disruption in the Middle East. Traders are underestimating the threat that Iranian retaliation to the U.S. attack poses…

In a culture driven by reaction, where identity is negotiated publicly and visibility often passes for power, lucidity can feel subversive. Armarium’s fall 2026 collection built on that thesis. Giorgia Gabriele’s starting point was Catherine Tramell in 1992’s Basic Instinct. “It’s her lucidity,” said Gabriele of the character played by Sharon Stone. “It’s not about independence, but mental clarity. Knowing who you are before the world defines you.” The collection’s title, She Was Never the Suspect, read less as a narrative reference and more as a refusal to be put on trial in a culture that constantly demands explanation. This attitude…

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced late on Friday that his company has reached an agreement allowing the Department of Defense to use its AI models in the department’s classified network. A long-lost silent film that’s believed to be the first depiction of a robot in motion pictures was rediscovered in Michigan. And it’s a great reminder for film history fans that you shouldn’t give up hope just because a film has been deemed lost. The film, titled “Gugusse and the Automaton,” is just 45 seconds long and was created in 1897 by French film pioneer Georges Méliès. It shows a magician named Gugusse turning a large crank to control Pierrot Automate, a child-sized robot. The robot grows bigger and bigger until it’s an adult. Once full size, the robot does…
