I knew about Crème de la Mer long before I tried it—safe to say, its reputation as a miracle-performing balm preceded itself. It wasn’t until 2021 that I finally got my hands on a precious tub. Careful not to indulge too much, I quickly came to learn why the cream was so esteemed. My skin drank it up, and night after night I came back for more, dreading the day I’d run out.Its benefits, I would soon find out, were born out of what can be best explained as an emergency (arguably, how the best ideas are born, but I…
Hi, friends! Welcome to Installer No. 114, your guide to the best and Verge-iest stuff in the world. (If you’re new here, welcome, send Arc Raiders tips, and also you can read all the old editions at the Installer homepage.)This week, I’ve been reading about wind turbines and phishing scams and oboes, keeping organized with the ultra-minimal Attn app, testing the lovely Aeronaut Bluesky client, spending too much time researching electric snow shovels, finally upgrading my trusty podcast headphones to a new Beyerdynamic pair, starting my umpteenth rewatch of Superstore, and debating whether to swap my iPhone 16 for an…

It’s no secret that Cassette Boy is inspired by the classics. It’s a top-down adventure game in the vein of a retro Legend of Zelda, while your home base is a small town like in an older Pokémon game, complete with a mom who is constantly wishing you well. The game’s blocky 3D graphics evoke Minecraft, and you save at campfires that reset the world, like a FromSoft game. Everything in Cassette Boy even has a green tint that reminds me of playing games on my original Game Boy. But despite all of the clear influences, it still feels unique:…
We independently select these products—if you buy from one of our links, we may earn a commission. All prices were accurate at the time of publishing.Pancakes. Breakfast burritos. Egg bites. Smoothie bowls. Biscuits. The freezer aisle has become an unexpected stage for breakfast. Over the past two months, I sampled roughly 50 frozen breakfast items — nearly a new breakfast every single day. I learned a lot of things, like that there have been some huge advancements in waffle science. More importantly, opting for a frozen breakfast item has become easier than toasting a slice of bread — and, in many…
Self-driving truck startup Waabi’s billion-dollar fundraise isn’t just about trucks. The deal, for $750 million up front plus another $250 million from Uber tied to deployment milestones, marks a major expansion into robotaxis for the company founded by former Uber AI chief Raquel Urtasun. It also feels like another chip from Uber on the autonomous vehicle roulette table. With more than 20 AV partners worldwide, the question isn’t just whether Waabi can deliver on its plans to deploy over 25,000 robotaxis, but whether Uber’s bet-on-everything strategy actually works. Watch as Equity podcast hosts Kirsten Korosec, Sean O’Kane and Anthony Ha discussed Uber’s AV partnership strategy, why Waabi’s “simulation-first” approach might be different, and…
The Bill Belichick Hall of Fame snub continues to resonate, which continues to underscore how ridiculous it all is.One thing that remains unclear is how close Belichick came to getting in. Was it close? Or was it a blowout? The answer possibly has emerged.AdvertisementIn the middle of a column from Gerry Dulac of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in which he both defends a deeply flawed process and insists that no transparency is owed to the public, an intriguing nugget is buried. From Dulac: “To be elected, a candidate has to receive at least 80% of the votes, or, in this instance, 40 of…
There’s a lever on the back for this compression mechanism that you manually press down and a separate button to open the dustbin at the bottom. You can use the compression lever when it’s both closed and open. It did help compress the hair and dust while I was vacuuming, helping me see if I had really filled the bin, though at a certain point it doesn’t compress much more. It was helpful to push debris out if needed too, versus the times I’ve had to stick my hand in both the Dyson and Shark to get the stuck hair…
Kraft Heinz announced plans to split into two separately traded companies, reversing its 2015 megamerger, which was orchestrated by billionaire investor Warren Buffett. Justin Sullivan | Getty Images News | Getty ImagesBig Food is slimming down. As both consumers and regulators push back against ultra-processed foods, the companies that make them have been splitting up or divesting iconic brands. Last year, Unilever spun off its ice cream business into The Magnum Ice Cream Company. Kraft Heinz is preparing to break up later this year, undoing much of the merger forged more than a decade ago by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway…
Food director Chris Morocco spent months developing this chocolate chip cookie recipe—testing 30 batches, then cross-testing 10 more—to land on what he considers the icon’s Platonic ideal: intentionally thin cookies with deeply caramelized flavor, crisp edges, and a soft, chewy center. Rooted in classic Toll House DNA, the recipe is elevated with brown butter for nutty depth and a higher proportion of brown sugar for richness and chew.Because the dough also has a high butter-to-flour ratio, small variables—like kitchen temperature, flour brand, or how warm the dough is when it goes into the oven—can affect how much the cookies spread.…
