A lone couturier from Dubai, the Syrian-born Rami Al Ali held his sophomore couture week outing in a venue tucked away on the Rue du Mont Thabor, a tiny side street sandwiched between the Rue de Rivoli and the Rue Saint-Honoré that is best known for niche jewelry boutiques and fashion eateries.Backstage before the show, the designer—who this year celebrates 25 years in the business—shared that this season’s inspiration came largely from the 13th-century philosopher Rumi. “I’m a big fan of his work,” the designer said, explaining how the Persian poet-philosopher found harmony in fragments, a concept that became the…
Ever since Game of Thrones came to its controversial end, HBO has had grandiose plans, in scope and scale, for what it wants to get out of telling more stories in Westeros and beyond. But for all that epic dreaming, it turns out that the quiet success of one of its intentionally smaller shows could turn all that on its head. That show is, of course, the ongoing Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which, despite its oversized hero in the form of Ser Duncan the Tall, has charmed audiences with its lighter, more intimate take on the world of Game of Thrones—a…

But he is one of just a handful of people who both played with and coached Bryant, so he’s reluctantly an authority on the matter. And he’s willing to admit that he sees shades of Bryant in the recent play of one particular NBA superstar, who since Dec. 20 has quietly led the league in scoring and steals, as the Clippers have resurrected their season from disaster. That would be franchise…
The Senate voted on Friday evening to pass the federal budget, funding everything except for one entity: the Department of Homeland Security, which was given a two-week funding extension in order to negotiate new guardrails around Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE). If no agreement is reached, DHS funding will lapse and the department will face a shutdown. The agreement — the result of frenzied negotiations between a united Senate Democrat caucus, their Republican counterparts, and the White House — passed 71-29. DHS will remain unfunded over the weekend, however, until the House of Representatives reconvenes on Monday to approve the new…
Welcome to Deep Dish, a weekly roundup of food and entertainment news. Last time we discussed Prue Leith’s exit from Bake Off.Food is political. It’s been said so often that it feels trite, nevertheless it’s perhaps truer now than ever. Take a look at Minnesota, where almost 100 food shelves in the state have signed an open letter calling for an end to the surge in federal immigration agents in the state. Or look at the network of food-based mutual aid that’s sprung up across the state. Or the many restaurants refusing to serve ICE agents.Today, restaurants across the country…

And we’re back: To a snow-laden Berlin for its fall 2026 fashion week, and, if the first day’s Ioannes show is anything to go by, to the 1990s. Hard-edged minimalism shaded black, brown, or ivory. Lean jackets and even leaner bootleg pants with seams snaking around the body. Coats in shaggy shearling or what was called back in the day ponyskin except it wasn’t, it was leather made to look just like it. Skinny cardigans straining to do up. Miniscule bras as tops. One-shouldered blouses with swishy trailing panels and worn with yet more of those kick-hemmed pants. Stilettoes with…
