Alphabet shares started 2025 with investors questioning whether Google could keep up with ChatGPT maker OpenAI in the AI race. By year’s end, the stock had notched its best performance since 2009. Google got its AI mojo back. Much of that was driven out of DeepMind, the British company Google acquired in 2014 for around £400 million. In a wide-ranging interview for CNBC’s new podcast, The Tech Download, DeepMind’s founder and CEO Demis Hassabis called it “the engine room” of Google’s AI efforts, adding that changes had been made to enable the tech giant to rapidly roll out AI products amid…
On Wednesday evening, the Senate Banking Committee delayed final discussions around a bill for creating greater regulatory clarity for crypto in the United States, fittingly known as the Clarity Act. The decision came as Coinbase CEO and deep-pocketed political donor Brian Armstrong went public with his complaints about the bill. The Senate Agriculture Committee had also already pushed back their debates around their version of the bill until January 27th. Both committees were originally scheduled to have markups on their respective versions of the bill on Thursday. Once finalized, both versions will be combined and voted on by the entire…
With seconds remaining in the Boston Celtics’ 119-114 win over the Miami Heat on Thursday, Anfernee Simons stepped to the line and calmly knocked down two free throws to seal the victory and run his point total to 39 — a Celtics record for scoring off the bench in a road game, and his highest scoring game with the franchise. Simons, who was traded to the Celtics over the summer in the Jrue Holiday deal, has been the subject of trade rumors for as long as he’s been with Boston. And his scoring outburst to power the Celtics’ 19-point comeback win…
After the self-induced tumult Sonos went through last year, I can understand why some people are reluctant to spend money on the company’s products. But newly appointed CEO Tom Conrad has shown that he’s determined to get back on track and revitalize Sonos as the leading whole-home audio brand. The contentious mobile app is in a much better place now than it was a couple of years ago, though some customers still encounter bugs and the frustration of speakers randomly vanishing from their system. It’s not all roses, but the situation is moving in the right direction — and I…
The beauty industry is entering a building period, after a dip in M&A activity in 2025. But who’s set to win big? This year, investors predict that vertically integrated, clinically backed clean beauty and wellness brands will attract investment and drive activity.“We expect the beauty sector to stand out as one of the most resilient and dynamic sectors within the broader consumer landscape,” says Andrew Woolston, market intelligence associate at investment firm Capstone Partners. “High‑growth categories such as fragrance are likely to remain key drivers of sector performance, with additional support from products with strong perceived value and efficacy‑led product innovation.”Capstone…

Altra Running’s distinctive wide toe box and zero drop heel-toe design don’t facilitate marathon PRs or punchy 5Ks.
