When it comes to weekend breakfast, some people crave pancakes drenched in syrup; others prefer cheesy scrambled eggs. As for me, all I really care about is the salty bacon.
But cooking bacon can be kind of annoying, especially if you’re impatient like me. Keeping the heat of the frying pan just right can be tedious (and don’t even get me started on the painful pops of bacon grease). Baking bacon is a technique many of my colleagues like, but I never feel like waiting for the oven to preheat.
So when I saw a hack that lets you cook a whole pack of bacon at once, with no splattering and zero oven involvement, I was hopeful. Instead of a skillet, the creator @toshbakes dumps the bacon (with the slices still sticking together) in a saucepan then cooks the bacon in its own rendered fat. After trying it once, I was an instant convert.

I actually cannot believe this hack worked as well as it did. While it took me a little longer to cook the bacon than it normally does for just a few strips, it saved so much time than if I were to do multiple batches in the frying pan. It was also much faster than throwing the strips in the oven.
I was shocked to see that the bacon was cooked evenly throughout the strip. There weren’t any overly cooked crispy edges or, worse, raw parts. Every strip got the same amount of love in the pan, thanks to the bacon grease. Since the strips are basically swimming in their own rendered bacon fat, every inch of each strip cooking at the same time.
There were some comments on the original creator’s video calling the bacon “floppy.” While some people like their bacon to be ultra crispy, I had no complaints with this bacon being slightly chewy. It was still perfectly delicious.
One person commented, “I call this ‘chaos cooking’ the bacon, and its the best way for sure,” and I’ve gotta say, I agree. Next time I get a package of bacon, I know exactly how I’ll be cooking it.
