Acting quickly may be the only way Liverpool can avoid missing out on Marc Guehi in 2026.
The Crystal Palace captain was expected to move to Anfield last summer, but a late change of plans from Palace saw the deal fall through just before the deadline.

After Giovanni Leoni suffered a season-ending knee injury, there were suggestions that Liverpool might look again at Guehi in January.
But as this transfer window has gone on, it has become increasingly clear that Manchester City are now leading the chase for his signature.
And with the Reds staying quiet, Fabrizio Romano has reported that City are now closing in on a deal for the England international.

Just a week ago, there were reports that Guehi was leaning towards a move to Liverpool rather than City, which had eased some of the concerns among Reds fans.

But on Friday, Romano shared news suggesting things had shifted again, reporting fresh progress in City’s pursuit.
The transfer expert wrote on X: “Manchester City advance on Marc Guehi deal as big approach has been made in the last 12h.
“Manchester City presented important proposal to Guehi in terms of contract, eventually ready to proceed also with Crystal Palace. Deal now closer with MCFC.”
Why Liverpool need to act fast as City close in on Guehi
Liverpool have made it clear that they do not plan to go after Guehi this window, but with City making serious moves, the club may need to change their plans.

The Reds are short of options at centre-back, and Guehi was clearly the player they felt could fill that gap.
Romano has not shared any specifics about what City are offering, but it is unlikely to be higher than the deal Liverpool had in place with Palace back in September.
Liverpool might not see the value now for a player they could sign for free in six months, but City’s growing interest means there is a decision to be made – and quickly.
