I’ve been following Jasmine and Chris, creators of the blog Sweet Simple Vegan, on social media and YouTube for years now. In one video, they raved over their chocolate mousse made from silken tofu. While it looked super rich and creamy, I was skeptical. Still, I decided to give the recipe a go for myself, and after having one spoonful, I haven’t turned back since. It’s become one of my favorite quick and easy, yet equally impressive, dessert recipes.

How to Make Silken Tofu Chocolate Mousse
This is a recipe to make in advance, not right when you want chocolate mousse, so you’re gonna want to plan ahead. In fact, the hardest part is waiting for the mousse to set.
All you need to make the chocolate mousse are a few simple ingredients: silken tofu (which you can find in most grocery stores), chocolate, maple syrup, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of espresso powder. (It’s optional, but it helps boost the chocolate flavor, so I don’t recommend skipping.)
The first step is to bring the silken tofu to room temperature (usually a few hours is good). Then, melt your chocolate (I used my favorite Hu dark chocolate) in the microwave or on the stovetop, and allow it to cool slightly while you prepare the rest of the ingredients. Drain your packet of silken tofu, and add it to a food processor or blender along with the maple syrup, cocoa powder, vanilla, salt, and espresso powder. Blend until smooth. Add the cooled chocolate blend again until fully combined.
Pour the mixture into glasses or ramekins. Then place them in the refrigerator to chill until fully set — an hour at the very least, but I usually let them set overnight. When you’re ready to serve, top with chocolate shavings, whipped cream (vegan if you wish), or fresh raspberries.
What’s So Great About Silken Tofu Chocolate Mousse
This recipe is truly the BEST. I’ve made it numerous times, and it hits without fail every time. The texture and flavor is so rich and decadent, I don’t think anyone would suspect it’s vegan, let alone made with silken tofu. It’s got a deep chocolaty flavor and just the right amount of sweetness that makes it feel totally indulgent, almost like a fancy truffle.
But wow that texture! It’s thick and dense, yet airy at the same time, just like a good chocolate mousse would be. In fact, I think the raspberries are needed to help cut through how rich it is.
It’s no-bake, no-stove, no-fuss: All you have to do is let it chill. Plus, you can sneak in some protein to your dessert. It’s vegan, so friendly for all eaters, and most importantly, tastes absolutely dreamy. I’m willing to bet once you make it, you’ll totally get the hype, too.
