New Year’s Eve is the perfect opportunity to add a little booze to anything and everything. Whether you’re celebrating what a great year it’s been or the fact that the year is finally over, this spirit-infused treat is one you don’t want to miss.
Sure, a glass of champagne is classic and an espresso martini can help keep you awake until midnight, but boozy chocolate cherries are so fun. When I saw the video of them decked out in sprinkles on Instagram, I knew immediately that I had to try the hack for myself.

How to Make Boozy Dark Chocolate Cherries
Start by draining a can of maraschino cherries. You’ll then add those cherries to a bowl with enough spiced rum to cover them all. Allow these to soak overnight (or maybe even longer if you’re really trying to maximize the booziness).
When you’re ready to start dipping and decorating, melt some dark chocolate in the microwave. I suggest adding some coconut oil here as well; it’ll make it smoother and more dippable, plus help it harden more quickly. (Essentially, you’re making your own magic shell.) Pour your sprinkles onto plates.
Dip the cherries into the dark chocolate mixture, then the sprinkles, then arrange them in a single layer on a tray or plate. Allow them to sit for a couple of hours before serving.
My Honest Review of Boozy Dark Chocolate Cherries
These suckers are dangerous! I had to keep reminding my family that they were spiked, even though I had no way of knowing how much alcohol each cherry actually contains. If you’re a fan of Queen Anne chocolate-covered cherries and spiced rum, they’d be right up your alley.
The sweetness of the marashino cherries is balanced out perfectly with the spiced rum and chocolate. I was a little worried about them being too sweet or even too strong, but the flavors pair wonderfully together. You definitely can taste the spiced rum, so maybe soak them for longer or shorter, depending on your preference.
I think the sprinkles may even be my favorite part; not only are they pretty but they add a lovely crunchy contrast. And the chocolate definitely sells it as a holiday treat fit for any occasion.
