This Brilliant Chip Bag Trick Turns It into a Bowl

You know that awkward moment when a group of friends is sitting around the coffee table sharing a bag of chips, and two people awkwardly reach for it at the same time? Then someone has to say, “No, go ahead” as the other mutters, “Sorry, thanks.” Then the poor person has to shove their hand in the bag blindly searching for a chip for what feels like eternity; meanwhile, every eye in the room is on them, hoping they hurry up. 

Know the moment? Good, because we’re here to make sure you never have to live through it again. We discovered the smartest trick for turning your ordinary chip bag into a bowl. 

There are lots of videos on social media demonstrating the technique, but we found @homeandkind’s instructions easy to follow. Here’s how to do it. 

Start by making a small hole at the top of your chip bag and then flip it upside down. This will allow air to escape without the chips falling out. To create the base, tuck in the corners of the bottom and start rolling the empty part of the bag toward the center until you reach where the chips are. You’re basically creating a circle or the “0-shape” at the bottom of the bag.

While you become painfully aware of how much air really is in your chip bags, you’re also pushing your chips to the surface so they’re easy to grab. Then, just flip your bag over again so that it is standing on the rolled side, open it all the way up, and enjoy. 

I put this to the test while hanging out with some friends and was met with some serious oohs and ahhs. Everyone was impressed with how well this hack actually worked and made grabbing a chip so easy. Believe it or not, but two people could actually reach for the Tostitos at the same time, without any awkwardness.

The chip bag can stand all by itself, so there was more room on the table for more dips and bites without the bag needing to lie on its side. Another thing we loved is that you can keep rolling the bottom of the chip bag up as you eat them to keep the chips toward the top. Then you never have to reach down into the bag abyss.
