I remember when Nothing Bundt Cakes became the dessert to have at parties and get-togethers (red velvet was my favorite!). Bundtlets and Bundtinis were absolutely everywhere when I was in middle school. Since then, I’m sad to report that I have had a limited amount of Bundt cakes in my life. Which is why I was so excited to order one recently from America’s favorite restaurant chain.
When I heard that Nothing Bundt Cakes was releasing a limited-time strawberry cheesecake swirl flavor, I wanted to try it immediately. I finally got a taste, and here are my thoughts.
What You Should Know About Nothing Bundt Cakes’ Strawberry Cheesecake Swirl
Nothing Bundt Cakes was started in 1997 by two moms in Las Vegas, Nevada, who wanted to bake “happiness” into every bite. The chain now has 600 locations, and is apparently the number-one specialty cake company in the country.
It sells a range of flavors, like lemon, chocolate chocolate chip, confetti, and more — all adorned with its signature cream cheese frosting. The chain also offers different sizes of Bundts, like mini cakes (Bundtinis) and personal-sized ones (Bundtlets).
The strawberry cheesecake swirl flavor is a limited-time menu offering available until May 31 in all cake sizes, while supplies last. Just in time for graduation season and Mother’s Day! The classic white cake base is swirled with a strawberry cheesecake filling, then it’s topped with a real strawberry glaze before being covered with the cream cheese frosting. Finally, it is topped with a graham streusel. This flavor was actually first released last year, but it looks like it was so popular that the chain brought it back.
My Honest Review of Nothing Bundt Cakes’ Strawberry Cheesecake Swirl
I was not surprised by how much I enjoyed this fruity and creamy dessert (my all-time favorite cake is a strawberry and buttercream cake from my hometown’s bakery). Strawberries and cream is a classic pairing, and this flavor absolutely nails it.
You can actually see the strawberry cheesecake batter cooked into the white cake because there are visible “swirls” when you dig into it. But it’s worth noting that it does affect the texture of the cake: The bottom (where the cheesecake is) is much denser, and the top is a little more fluffy with more air pockets.
I have always loved Nothing Bundt Cakes’ rich, creamy, and slightly tangy frosting, and I think it pairs wonderfully with the sweetness from the additional strawberry glaze. I was a little worried about the glaze, as the color is so bright that it looks like it might taste artificial, but it was fruity and bright.
Some other people in the office tried this treat out as well, and one person thought there wasn’t enough frosting. “Unless you dig your spoon into the top area, the cake below isn’t moist enough to be eaten on its own,” they said. I also wish the graham streusel was a little crunchier because its texture blends with all the other components in your mouth, so it doesn’t really stand out. But I would definitely pick this flavor up again.
