I believe that there’s a pie out there for everyone. The options are seemingly endless — there are fruit pies, chocolate pies, and even savory pies. And while you can make your own pie at home or pick one up from your local bakery, there are also so many great frozen pie options that you can get at the grocery store.
I spoke with a few different shoppers in New York City and Waynesville, North Carolina, to learn about their favorite store-bought frozen pies. These are the three that I can’t wait to add to my grocery cart next.
3 Best Frozen Pies, According to Shoppers
1. Marie Callender’s Lemon Meringue Pie
Sophia, a shopper who gets most of her groceries from Wegmans, says that Marie Callender’s lemon meringue pie is so good that it reminds her of her grandma’s version. It has such a “refreshing, fabulous lemony flavor” and “creamy, smooth meringue,” she says. There’s no need to heat it — just let it thaw in the refrigerator and enjoy it straight from the container.
2. Edwards Chocolate Crème Pie
This one is all about texture (at least according to Ruthie, a shopper in Waynesville, North Carolina, who is all-in on Edwards Chocolate Crème Pie). I’ve actually had this one before, and I have to say that Edwards has really nailed the structure here; it holds its shape after thawing in a way that some chocolate cream pies just can’t do.
This is another pie that doesn’t need to be baked; you can enjoy it after it thaws. It has a smooth, velvety bite and light chocolate flavor. Ruthie agrees, saying it’s just “so good.”
3. Mrs. Smith’s Homemade Apple Pie
Out of the three pies, this is the only one that requires you to turn on your oven. Chris, a shopper in New York City, says this pie “maintains its shape and buttery flakiness each time.” He’s from Georgia, and he says that he “keeps this pie in his freezer for when he’s missing home.” He always serves it with a scoop of ice cream to seal the deal.
